Pony-Mustang Alert!
Ellie (4yo sorrel mare from Antelope, NV) and Sera (5yo brown mare from Fish Creek, NV), two well-built, good-minded, affectionate and athletic pony sized (approx. 14hh) yet solid Mustang mares are looking for their respective humans. Their adoption fee is $125 and they are gentled, i.e. they halter and lead, pick up feet, load into a trailer. Both back, disengage hind quarters and have been practicing standing tied as well as ground trying. They enjoy going for walks in our walking pen and will happily stand as long as it takes to be brushed. Both mares greet us at the gate looking for attention.
Ellie and Sera are available through the TIP program (approval to adopt is required, we are happy to assist with the process). Located in Central Colorado, we can help arrange hauling.
Both mares are very trainable, willing and retain well what they have learned. They are interested in people, have a good attention span and ability to focus, and enjoy having something to do. With proper training, both would do great on trail as well as in the arena. They are suitable for a capable kid or a smaller adult, as well as for driving and packing.
Ellie naturally warmed up to all humans easily and is very friendly, following us around wherever we go. Objects were a bit harder for her to get used to at first, however, she has come a long ways in adjusting to our world and trusting us to keep her safe around all the strange things we expose them to.
Sera was guarded towards people at first, leery of quick movements and worried about having her head touched. She has, however, been super brave and curious about objects all along and not afraid of touch on the rest of her body. We're happy to report that over the past couple of weeks Sera been letting her guard down more and more, and has started to come to the gate whenever someone walks by to check out the humans and see if head scratches or possibly treats can be had.
At Wild Horse Outreach & Advocacy (WHOA), we look for suitable homes for all of our TIP and non-TIP Mustangs and are available for help and guidance post-adoption. It is important to us to set both Mustangs and adopters up for success and a solid, rewarding partnership.
